Coimbatore: New Rapid test kits for detecting COVID-19 have been brought to TN. Out of the 25,000 kits brought to TN, 2,000 test kits have been provided to Coimbatore initially. The use of these rapid test kits for the testing of COVID-19 was inaugurated by Minister S.P. Velumani at the Coimbatore GH today. Following the inauguration, people with COVID-19 symptoms were tested.

The use of these rapid test kits for the testing of COVID-19 was inaugurated by Minister S.P. Velumani at the Coimbatore GH today. Following the inauguration, people with COVID-19 symptoms were tested.
Speaking to the press, he said, "The COVID-19 spread is expected to come into control by May 3 and all precautionary preventive measures have been intensified in the state. The situation is under control in all the districts. Each district is under the care of an IAS officer."
"Out of the 127 infected people in Coimbatore 26 people have recovered. In the past four days, only two people have tested positive out of the 2,025 people who were tested. 10 areas in the city and eight areas in the sub urban region have been identified and isolated", he informed.
Further he said, "There are seven testing equipment in the Coimbatore GH, ESI and private hospitals. Similarly test kits are also available at all the areas that have been isolated and all the people with symptoms, in these areas can be tested for the virus. In the test that was conducted now on two people using the rapid test kits they were declared NEGATIVE."
He also spoke about hiking the price of essential commodities and warned, "Essential commodities must not be sold at hiked up prices. If anyone is caught doing it they will be acted upon severely. Coimbatore has received Rs.11 crore from the CM's relief fund."
Appreciating the cooperation of the people of Coimbatore, he said, "The situation will become better and COVID-19 will come under control by May 3. 98% of the people of Coimbatore are cooperating with the lockdown. The other 2% must also come in line with the system."
This inaugural event was attended by the District Collector K. Rajamani, Dean in charge of the Coimbatore GH Kalidas and hospital administrators.
