Speaking to the press, he said, "Out of the 127 patients who were admitted for COVID-19, 26 people have recovered and have been sent back home. 101 people are being administered treatment now. 18 places in Coimbatore have been identified and isolated. Measures have been taken to make sure that the essential needs of the people in the area are being met. In the last three days 2,000 people have been tested and the results of 1,800 people have arrived. Only one patient has tested positive for the virus. 200 people are yet to receive the results."
Talking about the lockdown he said, "People of Coimbatore must understand the reason for the extension of the lockdown and must stay back at home. They should avoid stepping out every day. In order to assess if there is community spread, people must remain indoors. We can control the spread of the virus only if people remain indoors. The police have been instructed to take strict action against those who step out unnecessarily."
Further he promised action against hoarders and said, "Social distancing must be observed 100% and that is the only way by which Coimbatore can be made into a district free of COVID-19 just like Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri and Pudukkottai."
"There is sufficient necessary medical equipment in the district", he said and added, "So far Rs.11 crore has been received as COVID-19 relief fund."
Talking about a specific COVID-19 case, he said, "The reason for a five year old to have contracted COVID-19 at Kinathukadavu is being analysed. A person who attended the New Delhi conference is said to have visited a marriage hall near the child's house."
The Collector warned ration shop supervisors and said, "If the quantity of relief supply provided is less, severe action will be initiated against the supervisor."
Following the District Collector, Police Commissioner Sumith Saran addressed the press and said, "3,000 people have been arrested and released on bail for violating the lockdown and 3,500 vehicles have been seized. All the vehicles that have been seized will be returned to the owners 10 days from the date of filing the case. They cannot be released sooner. In Coimbatore city 33 check posts remain functional for 24 hours and police are involved in vehicle checks. More than 1,500 policemen are involved in surveillance duty."
