Coimbatore: Pounammal, an octogenarian residing in Alagappa Chettiar Road, Gandhipuram within the Rathnapuri Police Station area is living alone after being abandoned by her children.
With the aid of the relief fund of Rs.1,000 provided by the TN government she purchased items for Rs.800 and used the remaining Rs.200 for other needs. Once the relief amount was utilised fully she was left without any more money even for her daily food. On account of this she had to resort to asking money from others for her needs.
When Sub Inspector Chellamani received information about this elderly lady and her need for food and money he visited the house of Pounammal and provided her five kgs of rice, one kg of pulses, 50 gms each of turmeric powder, sambar powder, coriander powder and rasam powder, mustard, half a kilo of tomatoes, onions and potatoes, biscuit and bread.
This act of kindness by the sub inspector of police moved the elderly woman to tears. She thanked him for his timely help when she was short of money to buy herself food.
