Coimbatore: A transformer near the Singanallur police station caught fire today, causing some tense moments. Witnessing the transformer ablaze, the police informed the Fire Department. Due to the lockdown there was no crowd and the firefighters were able to arrive at the spot immediately and put out the fire on time.

It was due to the swift action of the firefighters that a big catastrophe was avoided since the transformer was located near the Singanallur Police Station and the police quarters is situated right behind this place. There is also a private hospital right behind the transformer. Buses that pick up passengers at the Singanallur bus stand are usually parked here and many times people board the buses from this location.
Due to the fire, the power supply was disconnected for sometime and the EB workers were working on restoring the damage caused by the fire as of 8PM.
