Yesterday, a dead leopard was spotted at the Oosimalai Mattam Estate, near Valparai. On receiving information regarding this, the tea estate administration informed the Forest Department officials. The Forest Department officials rushed to the spot and retrieved the carcass of the leopard and took it to the Animal Disaster Management and Rescue Center at Rottikadai.
The District Forest officer and Field Officer of the Animal Disaster Management and Rescue Center Arokiaraj Xavier viewed the carcass of the leopard and conducted an investigation. Later a post mortem of the carcass was performed by the Valparai Veterinary Doctor Meiyarasan.
Few primary organs of the animal were sent to the Forest Research Center at Coimbatore for analysis. Only upon receiving information of the analysis the cause of the leopard’s death can be ascertained. However the Forest Department officials said the age of the leopard has been estimated to be five years.
