The ability to go out to buy food supplies has been extremely limited for the tribal people in the mountain villages. To address this, the members of an NGO focused on children’s welfare led by the Mettupalayam Tahsildar reached village-by-village to distribute essentials such as horsegram, wheat, oil and salt.
They wore protective gear during the distribution. They covered the villages of Atthikadavu, Pillur, Surandi, Thoandai and Neeradi, which are tribal villages. 554 families were provided with the essential supplies.
The villagers are primarily daily wage labourers who have lost their livelihood due to the lockdown. Hence this supply of essential relief materials was of great help.
