Coimbatore: Providing a hint as to why the District Administration asked the NGOs and volunteers to leave food distribution to the government, 40 police officers are now being tested for coronavirus symptoms as a man who provided food for them in Mettupalayam Road has been tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday.

This 61-year old man from Kothari Nagar in Coimbatore had traveled to Delhi and returned to Coimbatore through flight on March 23rd, 2020. Following the announcement of the lockdown, he volunteered to provide food for the cops in Mettupalayam Road of Thudiyalur Area.

It is said that he had been tested twice for coronavirus earlier and on both occasions his results turned up negative. During his volunteering he has visited police stations in Thudiyalur and also the District Collectorate. Few days back he developed symptoms for COVID-19 and was tested positive.

Following his test coming out positive, all the policemen who have come in contact with this 61-year old man have now been asked to take tests in the nearest primary healthcare centers. About 40 of them are now taking tests.

Family members of this 61-year-old man, relatives and all his travel contact tracing is now being tracked down by the health officials.

This now also validates the reason why the District Collector had requested the NGOs to leave the distribution of food to the needy in the hands of the government.
