The Nilgiris: The nationwide lockdown due to coronavirus has affected the daily lives of the people in many ways in the Nilgiris. Even though essential supplies are available uninterrupted for city dwellers, tribal people who live far away from the urban region experience a lot of difficulties in getting their essential supplies.
The Nilgiris: The nationwide lockdown due to coronavirus has affected the daily lives of the people in many ways in the Nilgiris. Even though essential supplies are available uninterrupted for city dwellers, tribal people who live far away from the urban region experience a lot of difficulties in getting their essential supplies.
In order to help the affected tribal people the Nilgiris DMK distributed relief supplies to the villages of Chinna Kurumbadi, Periya Kurumbadi and other tribal villages in Coonoor.
Essential supplies including rice, pulses, oil and face masks were provided to the people.
Additionally sanitation workers and road workers were also provided with face masks.
The event was also attended by the DMK State Minority Deputy Secretary Anwarkhan, City Secretary M. Ramasamy and District Assistant Secretary Tamil Selvan. More than 600 tribal people living in that area were distributed relief supplies.
The DMK District Secretary P.M. Mubarak said that the relief supplies will continue to be provided to the public as long as the lockdown is in place.
