Coimbatore: The lockdown was imposed by the central government in an attempt to curb the movement of the people. The public have been advised not to travel out more than two kilometers from their homes. The need to practice social distancing has also been insisted by the district administration and the police department.
People who violate these rules have been warned of consequences but many people still travel outside. The police have therefore been trying to impose various means of controlling the people out on the streets. People are made to wait for an hour and let off with a warning.

In spite of the various efforts made by the police, the crowd of people waiting outside the District Collectorate, seeking permission from the government to travel out of town is very high as murmurs of the lockdown being extended has been swirling around in social media.

The police informed the crowds about the online process for obtaining permission from the Collector and requested them to use the service to avoid crowding at the Collectorate. However the public refused to leave and opted to wait outside. Some people even got into arguments with the police personnel and the police took time to convince the public and made them to return to their homes.
