All the members of the Church took part in the Easter service, from their homes, through Facebook. This is the first time that a remote mass has been conducted in the last one hundred years.
Coimbatore: For the first time in a hundred years, an Easter mass was conducted through online broadcast live on Facebook.
Due to the lockdown in place, all diocesans have passed orders to not conduct any masses or sermons until the lockdown is completed to cooperate with the government. Churches have been devoid of people and today was no different on the occasion of Easter.
Easter is one of the important festivals for Christians. This is celebrated to denote the belief that Jesus Christ resurrected himself on the third day after his crucifixion. Christians all over the world undertake a fasting for 40 days and pray at the churches, on this day to break the fast.
As a result of the lockdown, due to COVID-19, most of the churches in Coimbatore wore a deserted look. At the 9th Street CSI church Rev. Barnabas and Assistant Pastor Nelson Sathish led the Easter prayers, which was telecast live on Facebook, even though the church was devoid of any people.
