Coimbatore: Police arrested 6 people for brewing toddy and seized 3 litres from them. Toddy production is on the rise following the closure of TASMAC shops.
With the country under lockdown, all the shops including the liquor store are closed and only the essential items are sold. In the absence of TASMAC stores, toddy is being sold in many places in the Nilgiris district and several arrests have been made.
Six persons were arrested by the police yesterday after they received information that the Rajkumar, Vishwanath, Arputha Samy, Pannirselvam, Nagaraj and Deepak were brewing toddy at the tea estate in Nelliyalam Amman Kunnu Village. They seized 3 litres of toddy from them.
Other than those arrested for selling toddy, a total of 1777 cases have been registered and 653 vehicles confiscated for violating curfew in Nilgiris District.
