The action comes after media reports by The Federal had raised concerns about the efficacy and toxicity of the disinfectant tunnels. Following this, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami through video conferencing discussed with CMOs regarding the effectiveness of such tunnels and if it really destroys viruses including COVID-19. The experts have apprised the CM that spraying of sodium hypochlorite, the main ingredient used in the tunnels has ‘no scientific proof’ and can be harmful to humans than the virus if the percentage of dilution is changed slightly.
