Coimbatore: The Railways Department had planned to convert railway coaches into isolation wards for the patients affected by COVID-19. Railway coaches with attached toilets seemed ideal for this purpose. Hence plans were made to clean and sanitise the coaches and use it for isolation purposes.

Following this planning, the Coimbatore workspace under the Salem Zone was working on converting three coaches into isolation wards. This task has now been completed and now they are ready for use.

In case of shortage of space at the government hospital, these railway coaches will be used for isolating and treating the patients if the outbreak goes out of control.
