COVID-19 advisory meeting held at Ooty by Minister SP Velumani

The Nilgiris: The advisory meeting of the Nilgiris District administration was conducted today to review the preventive and precautionary measures being undertaken to combat the spread of COVID-19. The meeting was presided over by the Minister for Municipal Administration SP Velumani.

Speaking to the press after the meeting Minister S.P. Velumani said, "The TN government has been undertaking many commendable precautionary measures to beat the spread of COVID-19. In Nilgiris, three places have been kept ready with more than 320 beds, for the admission of patients. Two student hostels and one private school have been equipped for the admission of patients, incase of an emergency."

Talking about the COVID-19 spread in the district he said, "Initially, eight people who returned from Delhi were isolated and when four of them showed symptoms they were sent to the ESI Hospital in Coimbatore, for treatment."

Talking about the testing center facilities in the district, he informed, "Rapid work is underway to obtain approval for the Pasteur Institute at Coonoor to become a COVID-19 testing facility."

"It has been decided that 75% of the essential commodities will be provided by the government, to the people of Nilgiris. On behalf of the local bodies department, an assortment of 15 types of vegetables will be provided to the people. All the three meals of the day will be provided free of cost, at all Amma Unavagams in Nilgiris", he said.

He also said, "Essentials for the tribal people and the people without ration cards will be arranged for", and further informed, "Wholesale vegetable markets which are currently on the Mettupalayam Annur road will be setup closer to Mettupalayam, to make it more convenient for the farmers of Nilgiris to sell their mountain vegetables."
