Coimbatore: Municipal Commissioner of Valparai Dr. Pavanraj received information regarding the sale of illegally sourced fishes from Oman at the Valparai Fish market and had ordered for an inspection.
Coimbatore: Municipal Commissioner of Valparai Dr. Pavanraj received information regarding the sale of illegally sourced fishes from Oman at the Valparai Fish market and had ordered for an inspection.
Under his orders the Municipality Engineer Saravanababu conducted inspection at the Valparai Fish market. During inspection they seized a box of illegally sourced fishes from Oman that were preserved using injected chemicals, from the shop of Jio in the New market.
During investigation Jio revealed that one box of fish was kept for sale at the Stanmore Junction and he has nine more boxes of the fishes from Oman, at his house, that were kept concealed.
Following this information, the police seized all the 11 boxes of fish which were sprayed with medicine and later buried. The 11 boxes of fish were worth Rs.1 lakh.
Subsequently the police filed a case on Jio and warned others in the area to not indulge in any illegal activity.
