Coimbatore: The COVID-19 crisis has brought along with it a humanitarian crisis. However various government departments, private organisations and trusts, and volunteer organisations have been providing food, relief supplies and other essential materials for the people who have been affected, in an attempt to end the crisis.

However various government departments, private organisations and trusts, and volunteer organisations have been providing food, relief supplies and other essential materials for the people who have been affected, in an attempt to end the crisis.
Due to the lockdown people who do not have access to food are being provided with food by the Disaster Management and Revenue Department. Food charges at all Amma Unavagams have been borne by the state government.
To help the people at this time, the Sri Sathya Sai Annapurna Charitable Trust and the Sathya Sai Maruthi Seva will be providing the migrant workers in Coimbatore with six tonnes of groceries. Both the organisations function with Chikkaballapur, Bangalore as their headquarters. They have branches all over India.
The relief material distribution was inaugurated by the District Collector K. Rajamani.
The Coordinator of the organisation Dr. Badrinarayanan said, "There are a lot of North Indian migrant workers here in Coimbatore and the organisation is keen to provide essential groceries for these people. Five lakh students studying in classes 1 to 10, at government schools in the suburban regions are being provided with breakfast, by the organisations. Migrant workers are being provided with six tonnes of groceries. Each person is provided with a package of nine items including five kilos of wheat flour, one kilo of onions, one kilo of tomatoes, potatoes, pulses, salt, turmeric, coriander powder and sambar powder. Each package is worth Rs 500."
These relief materials will also be provided to the migrant workers at Sundarapuram through the North Tahsildar's office.
