Coimbatore: The PSG Institute of Advanced Studies (PSGIAS) has developed a high-end ICU Ventilator and has transferred the technology to PSG Industrial Institute (PSGII) to make it in quantities.

Two working prototypes were made, tested and evaluated by doctors and ventilator / electronic experts. These prototypes will be undergoing clinical trials shortly. PSGII has installed a production set up with clean room and is gearing up for mass production.

The high-end ventilator has been designed with precision pneumatics and integrates different types and categories of ventilators. It uses the latest technologies to provide an interactive environment for the physicians to easily navigate and support a patient on ventilation.

The design supports a special automatic weaning process using special sensors and devices, whereby the ventilator provides an indication for the doctors to move a patient out of ventilation when he is able to breathe spontaneously on his own, thus avoiding the complications of over-ventilation.

The technology is flexible to accommodate new technologies like IoT (Internet of Things) through Bluetooth data transfer. The reliability of the software has been tested and verified using a special LDRA testing tool. The ventilator provides advanced features and is available for Indian hospitals at an affordable cost.
