Coimbatore: Intense patrol work is being carried out on the instructions of Additional Chief Forest Officer and Field Director Thepa Shush Jana and Deputy Director Arogiya Raj Xavier in the Anaimalai Tiger Reserve in Valparai, Coimbatore district.
The forest department received confidential information that a porcupine was hunted down in the Thaimudi estate in the Manampally Highforest estate reserve forest. Following this, upon orders by Forest Ranger Natraj, Kallar Division Forest Officer Sheik Umar headed a crew of Forest officer Sadam Hussain and anti-poaching officers inspected the area. It was confirmed that Siva aged 36, Mariappan aged 56, Kannan age 53, were involved in hunting. They confessed to their crimes and were arrested by the Forest Department.
They were levied a fine of ₹20,000 rupees each. This action of the Forest Department has been welcomed by activists and environmental enthusiasts.
