Karunya University offers Karunya Trust Campus to set up isolation wards

Coimbatore: The Central and state governments have been taking up various measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the country. People are expected to follow social distancing and a lockdown all over the country was imposed to insist this.

In this scenario, the Chancellor of the Karunya University Dr. Paul Dinakaran has offered the Karunya Trust Campus at Periyanaickenpalayam, to be used as an isolation ward for COVID-19 patients. He sent a request to the District Collector K. Rajamani to accept this offering. 

In a press release, the college management said, "The Chancellor of Karunya University Dr. Paul Dinakaran has offered the Karunya Trust Campus at Periyanaickenpalayam belonging to the Karunya University for maintaining an isolation ward for COVID-19 patients. This gesture is extended with the intent of assisting the central and state government, in taking care of the patients affected by COVID-19 and to help with providing assistance for the relief measures that the government is planning."

Stating the facilities at the campus, the release said, "The government can utilise this facility to isolate the people who have been affected with COVID-19. The Karunya Trust Campus is equipped with a 400 bed facility for men and women separately with a good ambience. The place is also equipped with good quality dining halls which make it easy for maintaining patients."

The District collector yesterday announced that the facilities for housing 13,000 people is already in place in case there is an outbreak of the virus. It has to be seen if the district administration take up this offer from the University.
