Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Corporation has been taking several measures to contain the infection of the novel coronavirus and to prevent it from entering stage 3. Several disinfection methods have been initiated by the District Administration of Coimbatore like using drones, fire service vehicles, and powerjets to fumigate the streets and buildings.

Today as a preventive measure, Minister SP Velumani inaugurated disinfection tunnels worth Rs. 4.80 lakhs in Kurichi Uzhavar sandhai, Gandhipuram bus stand, RS Puram Uzhavar Sandhai and Ukkadam bus stand. This disinfection tunnel was first setup in Tirupur market by entrepreneur of Tirupur with the help of Tirupur District Collector.

The disinfection tunnel is to be set up in 12 more locations. Six of the twelve tunnels have been sponsored by private entities so far which includes the four opened today. Sumangali Jewellers of Raja Street Coimbatore has sponsored 5 tunnels (ESI Main Building, Ukkadam Market, Gandhipuram Bus Stand, Vadavalli Market and Sundarapuram Market) and Casagrand has sponsored the 1 tunnel (RS Puram Uzhavar Sandhai) in Coimbatore.

This was followed by the launching of an antiseptic spraying vehicle using powerjet in Gandhi Park. 10 vehicles were given for five zones. Following this, the Minister will be participating in a consultative meeting with the officials to discuss on the various measures to be taken for preventing the spread of coronavirus to stage 3 in Coimbatore.
