Tirupur: Workers residing at the Ambedkar Nagar, Sundamedu near Vidyalaya on the Tirupur-Palladam road belong to other districts of Tamilnadu, including Tirunelveli, Sivakasi, Kancheepuram etc. There are around 50 families of workers who reside here without a ration card for Tirupur.
Tirupur: As Tirupur Administration has been taking proactive steps to take care of migrant workers from other States, the District Collector K Vijayakarthikeyan immediately ordered the officials to address their plea. Following which, a team led by Tahsildar visited the spot at around 8 pm yesterday and provided dry rations to them.
As a result of this, they are not able to avail any of the relief benefits that are being offered by the government. Many of these workers claim that they had run out of essentials and money and that they are currently without any means to buy food.
Upset with the alleged indifference of the local authorities they staged a protest in the Sundamedu area yesterday. During the protest they said, "Our ration cards and other documents are stuck at our home towns. Due to the lockdown we are not in a position to travel to our hometowns. The District administration must pay attention to our plight, otherwise we are in a situation where we will die of poverty before we die of COVID-19."
