Coimbatore: As was expected after 2 days in a row of nil positive cases, 29 new cases have been identified as tested positive for coronavirus in Coimbatore. For the last few days, 99 people have been isolated under suspicion of coronavirus infections after it was confirmed that all of them had connections with those who had travelled to New Delhi for the Tablighi Jamaat conference.
Coimbatore: After reporting Nil cases for two days in a row, 29 new COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in Coimbatore district. Thus, the total has surged to 58. Further, 99 people have been isolated under suspicion of coronavirus infections after it was confirmed that all of them had connections with those who had travelled to New Delhi for the Tablighi Jamaat conference.
Out of these 29 cases, 20 cases were from ESI Hospital in Coimbatore, 3 cases in CMCH, 5 cases in Annur GH, and 1 from Pollachi GH.
Thus the total number of positive cases as per the government's district-wise breakdown for Coimbatore stands at 58. There is a slight confusion in this number as the 4 positive cases of a railway doctor, her 10-month old child, her mother and maid, all of whom were declared positive by the Health Minister don't seem to feature in Coimbatore's numbers anymore. Their results were declared positive on March 29th, 2020 and they were patient number 43-46 in the March 29th bulletin released by the government.

Apart from this confusion, the number of cases in TN has risen by 86 today to a total of 571 positive cases of COVID-19. Of these 86 cases, 29 have been from Coimbatore.
This is the single largest increase in the number of cases for Coimbatore since the start of the pandemic. Given the number of people who might have come in contact with the affected persons, this number is expected to rise up.
The District Administration has raised a request to those members who have been in touch with the travellers to New Delhi to remain isolated and report if there are any symptoms.
