Tirupur: Due to the imposition of lockdown to prevent the spread of COVID-19, North Indian labourers, who are stuck in their towns of work, were facing a lot of difficulties. A request to provide them with ration items, was put forth to the CM by the BJP State General Secretary Vanathi Srinivasan.
Tirupur: Due to the imposition of lockdown to prevent the spread of COVID-19, North Indian labourers, who are stuck in their towns of work, were facing a lot of difficulties. A request to provide them with ration items, was put forth to the CM by the BJP State General Secretary Vanathi Srinivasan.
Raising this issue, Vanathi Srinivasan said, "Most of the labourers from other districts, who stay at Tirupur, for work, left to their hometowns when the 21 day lockdown was announced. They used buses, cars, vans to travel to their hometowns. However, the North Indian labourers remained stuck in Tirupur, due to the cancellation of train services.
These labourers generally send their salaries, back home, to their families, as the families usually stay back in North India. In this state, the labourers are now left without any money for their daily use, even for buying food supplies.
These 10,000 labourer families are not able to receive the relief materials from the ration shops in Tiruppur as they hold only ration cards of their natives in their home states. It is therefore necessary for the TN government to take action to provide these labourers, with the necessary relief materials, through our ration shops."
Responding to this request the District Collector K Vijayakarthikeyan, has said that all the basic facilities for the other state labourers, put up in Tirupur, are being met. He said, "A total of 39,124 people, in 9,781, families are being provided with food and ration materials and all the basic facilities, for their daily lives. This includes 3,666 families in the North zone, 3,051 families in the south, 1,611 families in Avinashi, 109 families in Oothukuli, 1,274 families in Palladam, 12 families in Dharapuram, 18 families in Kaangeyam, 30 families in Udumalai and 10 families in Madathukkulam."
