Coimbatore: As a part of the measures being undertaken to avoid the spread of COVID-19, at Valparai, the sale of groceries, vegetables, milk and meat has been permitted from 6 AM to 2 PM while observing social distancing norms.

In spite of the many measures taken to raise awareness, people forget to maintain the social distancing norms and crowd the shops. Tomorrow, being a Sunday, thousands of workers from the tea estates will visit the shops, to buy essentials and since there is a possibility that people might crowd the markets, the government has decided to setup a market so that the social distancing can be enforced.
The Valparai Municipal Commissioner Dr. Pavanraj has ordered for setting up shops carrying grocery items, vegetables, meat, poultry and fish shops, at the Government Higher Secondary School Campus. The preparations for setting up the shops are being undertaken today.
Barricades have been set up in such a way that people can maintain a social distance of one meter and stand in a queue comfortably. Additionally, hand washing facilities and toilet facilities have also been set up to ensure people can maintain hygiene while purchasing.
