Coimbatore: The United Jamath and Islamic Federation members met the District Collector on Saturday, to submit a petition, urging action against the people who spread rumours against the Muslim community, in association with the spread of COVID-19.
Speaking to the Press after the meeting, the Coordinator of the Federation, Raja Hussian said, "The participants of the Tablighi Jamaat conference went to the hospitals voluntraily for check ups. More than 20 people were tested positive for COVID-19. The remaining people, their families and those who were in close touch with them are kept under isolation at their homes. On behalf of the federation, we have assured to the District Collector to ensure people under isolation follow proper protocols."
He alleged that even during this hour of crisis, some people with malicious intent are spinning rumours that Muslims who attended the Delhi conference are the origin of spreading the virus in Tamil Nadu and other States.
"The government should issue a stern warning against such rumour mongers as they are not only defaming the community but also provoking communal rift", opined Raja Hussain.
Stating that many houses are under quarantine, he said, "Houses of those suspected of the virus infection are quarantined and stickers are been pasted to warn others. However, none in the house are subjected for testing. If tests are carried, the inmates of the house and the neighbours can live without fear."
"Following our requests, the District Collector, K Rajamani has promised that action would be taken to test the isolated persons, soon. Out of the 35 people who attended the Delhi Conference, 21 people have been tested positive and the remaining 14 people have been tested negative", he added.
