“Negligence in providing safety equipment to cleaners”, condemns MP PR Natarajan

Coimbatore: MP PR Natarajan condemned the Coimbatore Corporation today for showing negligence in providing safety equipment for sanitary workers. In a press release he said that, "Fear of coronavirus has plagued mankind. Curfews are being imposed throughout the country and preventive measures are in place. Sanitary workers are just like doctors working all along the pandemic to protect people from the disease."

Coimbatore: MP PR Natarajan condemned the Coimbatore Corporation today for showing negligence in providing safety equipment for sanitary workers. In a press release he said that, "Fear of coronavirus has plagued mankind. Curfews are being imposed throughout the country and preventive measures are in place. Sanitary workers are just like doctors working all along the pandemic to protect people from the disease."

He added, "that the healthcare workers are working without any safety equipment." He condemned the corporation for the negligence shown to healthcare and sanitary workers and said that “it is not the duty of the Corporation Commissioner to keep going behind the Minister, but working with the corporation staff’s need in mind.” He said “that the corporation has not arranged food for the workers who have come from outside the District and they were being fed instead by the volunteers.”

He asked for breakfast and tea to be provided for workers working from 6 am to 2 pm and suggested that the administration can use the fire engine in the airport for spraying antiseptic until the airport operations start. The member of parliament requested the Commissioner to provide adequate facilities for the sanitary workers at least henceforth.



He also mentioned the work by CITU to provide food for 500 people everyday for the past ten days and said a meeting was held to improvise on the work. CPM Coimbatore District Secretary V. Ramamurthy, State Council Member C.Padmanabhan, CITU District Treasurer R Velusamy, K Manokaran and Ratnakumar were also present.
