Coimbatore: A party functionary of Tamil Puligal Katchi has filed a complaint at Karumathampatti police station urging action on those who spread rumours of him being tested positive for COVID-19.
Saravanan hails from Moopperipalayam, near Karumathampatti, Coimbatore district. He is the area secretary of the Tamil Puligal Katchi's Papampatti Gandhi Nagar area.
He has alleged that in a bid to create unrest in his area and defame his name, some people have been spreading false information through WhatsApp claiming that he is infected with coronavirus.
Saravanan in his complaint has noted that the rumours has caused much agony to his family and neighbours are reluctant to even walk by his home.
It may be noted that Saravanan was among the hundreds of Tamil Puligal Katchi who converted from Hinduism to Islam, recently. As many Islamic people who have been to a religious congregation are tested postive for COVID-19, rumour mongers have been circulating misinformation, he says.
Thus, he lodged a complaint with the Karumathampatti Police Station, urging the police to take stern action against those who are spreading fake news about him.
