Chennai: The Tamilnadu Health Secretary Beela Rajesh had yesterday thanked the 1103 Tablighi Jamaat conference attendees who had voluntarily come forward to be isolated and quarantined in various places of Tamilnadu.

The Tablighi Jamaat conference which happened from March 8th till 22nd March had a main conference for three days and various smaller events which was attended by Muslims from all over the country. The one around the 20th of March was attended by 1131 participants from all districts of Tamilnadu.

Once the government belatedly understood that most of the Jamaat attendees might be affected because the Thai internationals had been the centerpoint of positive cases in the state and in other states. So a call was issued and a list of participants were generated on March 30th to be sent to all district administrations in Tamilnadu.

A huge war cry was sounded on national media that the Jamaat attendees have not been forthcoming for isolation and tests on March 31. But to dispel such myths, Beela Rajesh had yesterday come out with a telling statistic that 1103 out of 1131 Tablighi Jamaat conference attendees who had been earmarked for quarantining have come forward voluntarily for treatment and isolation. Their secondary contacts and those who might have come in touch with them are being traced right now by various district administration authorities.

The Tirupur District Collector K Vijayakarthikeyan yesterday announced that 47 out of the 47 participants residing in Tirupur have been identified and isolated. Similarly the Coimbatore Collector K Rajamani has announced that 91 out of the 101 Jamaat participants have been traced and isolated.

Out of the 1103 isolated, 658 have been tested and 110 positive cases have been reported to be tested positive for coronavirus infection. In Coimbatore district, 28 of the 91 who have been isolated have been tested positive. In Tirupur, out of the 47, 2 have been tested and results are awaited. The Nilgiris district is rumoured by residents to have 4 positive cases and the Kandal area has been contained, but no official information has been released yet.

Out of the 28 positive cases from Coimbatore district, 21 are taking treatment from Mettupalayam and 7 are being treated in ESI Hospital, Singanallur, Coimbatore. Only one case is from the city of Coimbatore (Podanur), 5 from Anamalai, 2 from Pollachi, and 20 cases from Mettupalayam.

As more testing is done among this population, more positive cases might turn up but the good thing is unlike the media propaganda, the Muslim community has come forward to report to the administration. The call for the 100 odd participants who have not turned up to the authorities should be identified quickly and brought into isolation.

The District Administrations in Coimbatore, TIrupur, Pollachi, Nilgiris have been extremely diligent in rising up to the call of action and have brought the situation under control quickly.

If you know about any of the participants who have attended the Jamaat conference in New Delhi and have not reported to the authorities, please call 1077 for ensuring their safety and those of their kith and kin and the overall society.
