Coimbatore: Tea estate workers of the Kaanjamalai Estate, Vellamalai in Valparai, laid siege to the Valparai Tahsildar's office.
The Kaanjamalai estate belongs to the Periya Karumalai Tea Estate administration. More than 500 people are employed at this estate.
Due to the lockdown and the insistence of social distancing, tea estate work had been put on hold, completely. However, it is said that the estate administration insisted that the workers must report for work, today.

Protesting this, more than 100 estate workers laid siege to the Valparai Tahsildar's office.
After hosting a discussion with the workers, Tahsildar Rajan informed them that the government had permitted restarting the tea estate work.

Following this they filed a petition with the Tahsildar, who received it and assured them that he would forward their concern to the Municipal administration.
Finally, he said that the workers can return back to work, if they wanted to. As a result of the siege, tense moments prevailed for sometime.
