AIADMK cadres shouldn't be distributing relief fund tokens - MLA N Karthik

Coimbatore: The DMK Coimbatore City East District incharge N. Karthik has written to the District Collector, insisting that the token distribution for the distribution of relief funds should be undertaken by government employees and not the AIADMK cadres.

Coimbatore: The DMK Coimbatore City East District incharge N. Karthik has written to the District Collector, insisting that the token distribution for the distribution of relief funds should be undertaken by government employees and not the AIADMK cadres.

In the letter N. Karthik noted, "The lockdown that has been enforced to control the spread of COVID-19 has left many section of the society, like daily wage laboureres, farm labourers, auto drivers, taxi drivers, construction workers and other unorganised sector employees, street vendors and old people, fighting for their livelihood

This issue was raised by M.K. Stalin, who requested for the distribution of relief funds, through the ratio shops. The distribution of Rs.1000 for all ration card holders, provided on behalf of the TN government, was announced on March 24, 2020. In order to avoid a crowd and rush at the ration shops, tokens were planned to be distributed and people can visit only on the allotted day and time.

The Civil Supplies Tahsildar has said that the tokens will be distributed door to door by the cadres of AIADMK. This information has been confirmed by many in the public.

This relief fund is provided by the government, for the people, using the tax money of the people. Hence the distribution of the tokens must not be undertaken by any one political party, as it would lead to irregularities. This has to be done by government employees.

Hence, I request the District Collector, to ensure that the distribution of tokens for the collection of relief funds is undertaken by government employees and not the cadres of the ruling political party."
