Coimbatore: A daily wage worker, Sivanandham, aged 55, is a native of Trichy, residing near Sundarapuram. Sivanandham allegedly was used to consuming liquor everyday.

However, due to the lockdown, and the closure of TASMAC shops, it had been a very difficult few days for Sivanandham, who couldn't consume his usual liquor.
It is alleged that, depressed by the unavailability of liquor, his physical dependence on liquor increased. Unfortunately, instead of seaking help, he decided to end his life and committed suicide by hanging.
Neighbours who became aware of this, notified the Podanur police, immediately. The police rushed to the spot and retrieved the body of Sivanandham and sent it for post mortem.
An investigation is being conducted to ascertain if the cause of death was due to withdrawal symptoms. At this time, it is expected that many who are used to drinking regularly might be going through physical dependence issues and the relatives and friends of such individuals are requested to seek help of hospitals instead of trying to passify them at home.
