The 3D masks are being distributed to doctors and other critical workers at the frontline of the COVID-19 pandemic. They made the 3D Printing Face mask files open source with a guide, so that makers who is having 3D printers can print their own.

The team has so far distributed 350 shields, of which 250 were directly given to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital and ESI Hospital. And the remaining were given to Corporation-South Zone in association with Rathinam Group of Institutions.

Due to the overwhelming response, the team decided to open-source the design, so that anyone can use their design free of cost to make these 3D face masks.

The team now plans to move into mass production following the surge in demand. The manufacturing cost of the shield is presently Rs. 90 per shield.

With increase in demand, the team has appealed to people to contribute for the initiative.
