Coimbatore: With the cry for more testing getting louder by the day, the Government of Tamilnadu (GOTN) has authorized two private labs to start testing for coronavirus in Tamilnadu.
Of the two labs, one is in Coimbatore and not surprisingly has gone to one of the premier testing labs in the city, Microbiology Laboratory. The other testing lab has been allocated to YRG Care in Chennai.

When speaking to an official from Microbiology Laboratory, said "We are in the process of setting things up and it will take a couple of days to start the testing and customers are requested to call the lab before coming.
At this moment the cost of the test is unclear but it is estimated to be at par or under the cost that is stipulated by the government. The cost of the test will be known in a couple of days"
The sample collection will be done in the hospitals and sent to Microbiology Laboratory or will be collected on site at the RS Puram headquarters. Once collected, the sample will be sent to Veerakeralam Processing Center of the lab for COVID analysis.
Later, the results will be delivered between 5-24 hours from the time the swabs are received in the processing center.
This is a welcome move by the government to ease the workload of testing from government hospitals to private labs and thus improve the efficacy of the fight against the coronavirus.
