Corporation Commissioner holds advisory meeting on COVID-19 preparedness; insists people to stay indoors

Coimbatore: An advisory meeting regarding the preventive precautionary measures for the prevention of COVID-19, was held at  Corporation Main office on Monday.  

The meeting was presided by the Corporation Commissioner J. Sravan Kumar and led by the Corporation Deputy Commissioner S. Prasanna Ramasamy. 

Speaking at the meeting, the Commissioner said, "The Coimbatore Corporation has been undertaking COVID-19 preventive precautionary measures with complete dedication on war footing. Sanitation works, disinfecting using sprayers, distribution of information pamphlets, spreading awareness through autorickshaw announcements, door to door verification of persons showing symptoms of cold, cough and fever and sending them for treatment."

Insisting on the importance of following the guidelines issued by the government, he said, "People should abide by the lockdown and stay at home. Anybody who has a cough, cold and fever, must visit the GH or the Primary Health Centres  for treatment. Self medication should not be administered. Washing hands thoroughly with soap and water for 20 seconds is a must. Drinking boiled water and taking bath in warm water must be practised by everyone." 

Talking about food supply for homeless people, Commissioner briefed that "All authorities incharge of 'Amma hotels' must ensure clean and unlimited supply of meals, for everyone who visits the hotel. Community kitchens have been setup for preparing meals for the workers and the homeless people. Food distribution is being done through these kitchens. More than 5,000 sanitation workers are working to prevent the spread of COVID-19."

Saravanan (Accounts), Executive Engineer Saravanakumar, Assistant District Welfare Officer Dr. Vasanth Diwakar, PRO R. Mathiazhagan and other corporation  officials.
