Local administrations will not collect taxes for the next three months - Minister SP Velumani

Coimbatore: Minster for Municipal Administration and RDI S.P. Velumani held an advisory meeting, with the authorities, regarding the preventive measures being taken to prevent the spread of COVID0-19.


Coimbatore: Minster for Municipal Administration and RDI S.P. Velumani held an advisory meeting, with the authorities, regarding the preventive measures being taken to prevent the spread of COVID0-19. 

Speaking to the press the Minister said, "Out of the 221 people tested in the district, 6 people have been tested positive for the virus.Around 16,000, other state people are being provided food everyday, in the district. Migrants from other state will not suffer due to lack of food and it is necessary that factory administrations, take care of their employees."

"Plans are underway to sell vegetables, across all wards of the Corporation through 100 vehicles", he added. 

The Minister informed that the local administrations have been advised not to collect taxes for the next three months. 

Speaking about other state students and workers, the Minister assured that "Arrangements have been made to provide facilities to other state students and migrant workers. The TN government has taken learnings from Italy and the main motive is to avoid calamities of that magnitude."

Regarding the assistance fund that the government will provide, he said, "The assistance funds will be provided, starting April 2, 2020. Tokens will be issued and the public will wait in a queue, abiding by the social distancing norms, to collect the funds."

"The money will not be paid out to the bank accounts. As there is a possibility of the money being taken for any of the outstanding loans, money will be given in person", he told. 

The Minister warned that those spreading rumours at this hour of crisis will be dealt with.
