Tirupur administration sets up exclusive control room for migrant workers



Tirupur: The nationwide lockdown in India over the coronavirus pandemic is wreaking havoc on lakhs of migrant workers across the nation. In Tirupur, migrants who form a large portion of the workforce are now struggling to access basic amenities like food and clean water.

The knitwear industry in Tirupur has over 1.5 lakh migrant workers from Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and other north-eastern states. 

In a bid to ensure they are been taken of during this critical situation, the District Collector has announced an exclusive control room to help the migrant workers get access to food and other basic amenities.  

Collector K Vijayakarthikeyan on Sunday announced the following numbers and list of volunteers for assisting the migrant workers.
