Tirupur: In this hour of crisis, while people are stuck in panic due to the global pandemic, rumour mongers are worsening the situation by spreading unwarranted information through social media with hiked numbers of COVID positive cases.
With the State health department and district administrations are providing up-to-date information through their twitter handles and official social media pages on positive corona cases, rumour mongers are aimed at creating pandemonium by spreading fake news.
In one such incident, some miscreants have morphed the breaking news post of a Tamil TV channel and reported that two cases of COVID-19 have been reported from Udumalpet in Tirupur district. The news was shared widely in several whatsapp and social media pages.
Issuing stern warning to such rumour mongers, the District Collector of Tirupur, K Vijayakarthikeyan has clarified that the news of two people tested positive in Udumalpet is FAKE. He also warned people to abstain from spreading such misleading information among the public.
The Collector warned that rumour mongers will be dealt with and requested people from spreading information from unreliable sources.
