147 tested, 4484 isolated in Coimbatore - Minister SP Velumani

Coimbatore: "COVID19 preventive measures are being implemented effectively in Coimbatore. So far, 147 people who presented with COVID-19 symptoms have been tested. Of which, two people were tested positive. Around 4484, people with travel history are under quarantine", informed Minister SP Velumani at a media briefing here on Saturday.

The Minister chaired a meeting at the District Collectorate to review the situation. He held discussions with the District Collector, Corporation Commissioner, Police Commissioner and MLAs on the ongoing COVID-19 preventive measures carried out in the city. 

Addressing the reporters after the meet, the Minister informed that essential services are made available to the public without any delays. "Healthy food is being provided to the people through Amma Unnavagam, thrice a day. There is seamless supply of cattle feed across the district", he told. 

"The ESI Hospital in Singanallur here will be the primary hospital for Corona care", he added. 

"Nine AIADMK legislators from Coimbatore district have allocated Rs 5 crore for Coronavirus preventive measures. On behalf of AIADMK, Rs. 25 lakhs worth of medical equipments have been distributed", the Minister told. 

The Minister reassured that the government's announcement on dual wage for sanitary workers applies to both permanent and contract workers. "Steps are being taken to detain people from Kerala, arrangements have been made to make hem stay in camps. However, essentials goods are allowed from Kerala", he said. 

When questioned on the agitation by North Indian workers this morning on lack of food, the Minister said that the issue has been brought to the notice of the Collector who will take appropriate measures.
