This is one of the initiatives of the Government of Tamil Nadu which is taking steps to provide essential commodities to the people. In order to enable the public to buy vegetables at nominal rates, the Uzhavar Sandhai is set up at places like bus stands and grounds to enable the public to maintain social distancing of one metre while shopping.

Following this, the Uzhavar Sandhai in Charring Cross was shifted to Shanthi Vijaya school grounds. The public was given disinfection prior and was asked to maintain one-metre gap while buying vegetables.

The public were standing with a space of one meter and buying vegetables. Merchants have requested for providing temporary arrangements to prevent soil dust from falling in their stock. Merchants said that because there was too much dust at the stadium, people were reluctant to buy vegetables and requested to set-up temporary tents.
