Don't believe rumours about residents of 'quarantined' houses having coronavirus - S.P. Velumani

Coimbatore: Over 1000 people have been requested by the District Administration to be in self-quarantine. Over 300 of those homes have been pasted with stickers saying “coronavirus infection, do not enter”. Naturally this is given rise to speculations that they are coronavirus patients.

Coimbatore: Over 1000 people have been requested by the District Administration to be in self-quarantine. Over 300 of those homes have been pasted with stickers saying “coronavirus infection, do not enter”. Naturally this is given rise to speculations that they are coronavirus patients.

Minister SP Velumani has come out to quell the rumours in social media. Minsiter S.P. Velumani shared a message regarding the people under quarantine. In his Facebook post, he said that, "Homes with 'Quarantined' labels on them denote that people or a person in the house have/has arrived from abroad. They have been quarantined and placed under social disassociation. The public are requested not to believe the rumours regarding the residents of these houses being coronavirus patients thereby causing discomfort to them and their relatives."

The government had originally asked all those who from abroad to self quarantine themselves for a week. They were tested only if they showed symptoms. Now with the recent understanding that the virus can spread in an asymptomatic patient, things have changed. Those who returned from abroad in the last month have been moving around freely after the initial quarantine period. The officials now with the daunting task of controlling the spread of the virus are also fighting to track where those who went abroad might have travelled since they were not tested and not quarantined.

In this scenario, Minister SP Velumani has come out with his clarification to say those whose homes have been stickered, have not been tested but merely quarantined.
