Irula tribal people constitute the major population in the villages on the borders of TN and Kerala. These include the villages of Kondanur, Kuravankandi, Melpaavi and many others. Most of these people are employed as agricultural wage labourers and collect food from the forests.
Due to lack of sufficient awareness, they are unaware of how the disease is spreading around the world, thereby remaining mostly ignorant about the issues regarding COVID-19. In order to educate them, the Naxal prevention Division police force, which has camped at these locations, have undertaken the responsibility of educating the people.
The STF showed them practical demonstrations about staying safe from getting infected by Coronavirus. They also educated the people about the preventive measures and actions being taken by the government. They also highlighted the restrictions put in place, by the government.
Since the villages along the borders of TN and Kerala, and because the disease could spread easily into the state, the STF had also taken suggestions from the Health Department and used them, while educating the tribal people on how to remain safe during the pandemic.
