Tirupur: Firefighters extinguished the fire at a waste godown in Tirupur after fighting for over an hour. A privately-owned plastic godown functioning in the Tirupur Alangadu area had caught fire yesterday.
Tirupur: Firefighters extinguished the fire at a waste godown in Tirupur after fighting for over an hour. A privately-owned plastic godown functioning in the Tirupur Alangadu area had caught fire yesterday.
The owner, Amalaraj, 52, had stored the plastic cans collected from dyeing companies in the area. Plastic waste and iron were also dumped in the godown. After the workers had shut the godown at 6 pm the residents nearby saw smoke coming out and informed the fire department. A huge fire broke out before firefighters arrived at the scene.
The smoke went up to two kilometres. Firefighters who arrived at the scene later joined forces with the public to fight the blaze. It is said that the traces of the chemical in the cans collected from the company caused this fire.
In the meantime, the Tirupur North Police are investigating the case as to whether anyone was involved in the fire or whether the accident was caused by an electrical leak.
