Coimbatore: Precautionary, preventive measures are being put in place, to contain the spread of COVID-19. As per the announcement of the state government, section 144 came into implementation from yesterday evening at 6 PM and a country wide lockdown from midnight. This will be in place until April 15th. Only essential commodities will be sold and all other shops will remain closed, during this period.

As a result of this, all shops in Coimbatore were shut down today. Singanallur, Gandhipuram, Ukkadam and Kavundampalayam bus stands were devoid of any people movement. Police patrol informed the people to disperse and leave as soon as they could.
Many employees of private firms, who could not manage to get a bus, due to the reduction of bus service, had to walk to their destinations.
