Coimbatore: As the intensity of COVID-19 is increasing in the state, the Coimbatore Central Prison has been relieved of 153 prisoners, by sending them out on bail.
Coimbatore: As the intensity of COVID-19 is increasing in the state, the Coimbatore Central Prison has been relieved of 153 prisoners, by sending them out on bail.
More than 2000 women and men prisoners are lodged at the Coimbatore Central Prison. Due to the rapid spread of the virus, the TN government has ordered for the release of 153 prisoners, including 5 women on bail. This measure was undertaken to reduce the crowd in the prison.
Similar measures, involving granting of bail for prisoners from Tirupur, Erode and Nilgiris will also be taken shortly.
Speaking regarding this measure, Prison Superintendent Krishnaraj said, "Prisoners at the Coimbatore Central Prison have been sent out on bail, in a bid to control the crowd at the prison. Many precautionary measures are being undertaken at the prison. Hygiene is being insisted and implemented. Awareness is being created among the inmates regarding cleanliness and medical facilities have been improved."
"The shortage of face masks is being mitigated by the manufacturing of face masks by the prisoners, both for themselves and for supplying to the Coimbatore Government Hospital", he said.
