The official pointed at the recent crackdown on ambulances at Walayar check point, carrying people from Kerala to TN.
Recently, the incident of Coimbatore health officials stopping ambulances from Kerala into the city caused much agitation among the people in Kerala who condemned the act.
While probing into the incident, it has now come to light that the officials have busted a major issue in which ambulances were used to transport people from Kerala into Tamil Nadu, especially Coimbatore.
Upon suspicion, the officials at Walayar check point on Wednesday stopped an ambulance with siren and enquired. Duing inspection, they came to know that the ambulance was transporting people from Kerala to Coimbatore.
Following the district administration's order to seal the borders due to Corona spread, all the borders of the State have been locked down and health department officials are involved vigilantly in screening of vehicles, across all borders.
In this situation, it has come to the notice of the TN authorities, that the public, from Kerala, are being transported to TN, via ambulances.
This incident has shocked the TN authorities who have been dutiful and vigilant, in taking care, to avoid the spread of COVID-19. However, the authorities have warned that travelling illegally through ambulances is punishable.
Commenting on the distrubing news, a health official at Walayar check post informed that "TN Health Department has been taking various steps, to curb the spread of COVID-19. Borders have been closed and extreme vigilance is being maintained. However, people are using the ambulance, as a means to enter the State, without having to undergo any checks. This is a highly contagious disease. Kerala authorities should also take enough care, to make sure that such incidents don't go unnoticed."
