Coimbatore: The President and the Secretary of the Agricultural Cooperative society of Bellathi Village of Karamadai block in Mettupalayam have been arrested for defrauding lakhs of rupees, from the society.
Coimbatore: The President and the Secretary of the Agricultural Cooperative society of Bellathi Village of Karamadai block in Mettupalayam have been arrested for defrauding lakhs of rupees, from the society.
People from the villages and farmers of the area, had their savings accounts at the Bellathi Agricultural Society. Many of the villagers had taken personal and jewel loans from the society.
President, Murugaiyyan and Secretary, Manoharan were nominated as the in-charge of the savings accounts.
It is alleged that a year ago, complaints rose regarding fraud in the society, to the tune of several lakhs of rupees. This complaint was raised by the public and several employees of the society.
The complainants accused that the President and the Secretary were involved in defrauding jewels that were pawned and the savings deposits.
Consequently, the Cooperative society audit committee, conducted investigations, regarding the allegations.
The investigations pointed both the President and the Secretary jointly planned to defraud several lakhs.
Based on a complaint filed on behalf of the Cooperative society, the Central Economic Crime Police wing, have arrested the duo and presented them at the Coimbatore Court.
Following this, they were imprisoned at the Coimbatore Central Prison.
