Coimbatore: While the Central and State governments have requested IT/BPO/KPO companies to permit employees to work from home, to avoid the spread of COVID-19, the Forum of IT Employees have alleged that companies like CTS are yet to make any official announcement in this regard.
In a press release issued by them on Saturday, it has been noted Cognizant Technology Services (CTS) one of the large IT company with branches all over the State, has not made any official announcement to its employees regarding paid offs or work from home option. There are many more IT companies that are either refusing or staying mute about work from home option.
Calling it inhumane, the Forum for IT Employees slammed that such IT companies are only focused on making revenue, even during such crisis. More than 5 lakh employees are employed in the IT sector, in TN. It is therefore, petrifying to see the indifferent and careless attitude of the IT companies by making their employees come for work.
Unlike the IT employees, the chances for BPO/KPO employees to work from home are very less, and in such a situation it is unfair that the companies refuse to grant paid leaves to the employees .
In Coimbatore, 18,000 employees work for CTS and more than 10,000 employees work for other IT companies. All the IT companies in Coimbatore have refused to grant paid leaves to their employees, who cannot attend office nor work from home.
In this unforeseen situation, hostels are forcing women to vacate, which has put them in an uncertain state.
When the employees have expressed their willingness to support the initiative of the government, the IT and BPO/KPO companies are bypassing the government directives by staying mute to grant paid leaves to the employees.
It has therefore been requested, that the state government should intervene and take action against the IT companies that refuse to abide by the conditions of the State government, at a time of medical emergency, like the present.
