Undertaking an inspection of the preventive measures being implemented at Walayar, he spoke to the press, and informed, "Precautionary measures to control the spread of the virus are being undertaken at all places in Coimbatore. All places where people gather in large numbers, are being screened for people with symptoms of COVID-19. Medical teams from Coimbatore are involved in these screenings."
"Coimbatore being near the border of Kerala, all vehicles arriving from Kerala are being screened for the virus. Only after inspection, they are allowed to enter the state. Medical teams are stationed at all checkposts, to conduct the screening. Only vehicles carrying essential goods from Kerala, are being permitted into the state. All the drivers of these vehicles are subjected to screening and only on confirmation that they are free of symptoms, are they permitted to enter the borders", he clarified.
Talking about the other measures taken for precaution, he said, "The public have been asked to refrain from travelling. At the checkposts, officials of the police department, revenue department and the medical department are involved in conducting the checks and screenings. The Coimbatore District administration has taken the advice and guidelines of the State government, and is working to prevent the spread of COVID-19."
The new COVID-19 testing center, was inaugurated at the CMCH, yesterday. It has been fully functional since yesterday.
"Five people who were admitted with the symptoms were tested and three out of the five were tested 'Negative'. Results for the other two people are awaited", he said.
"The public and many organisations have been very cooperative and the same support is expected for the Janta curfew, that has been called for by the PM and the CM, tomorrow. Many associations have come forward and volunteered to support the Janta curfew. A minimum number of buses will ply tomorrow and all vehicles from Kerala will be subject to screening and only then permitted to enter", he said.
He further assured that, "Medical teams are functioning round-the-clock and are conducting vigilant screening. If need arises, more medical workers can be engaged."
