Tirupur: Traders of the Tirupur market, near the Tirupur Old Bus Stand, are involved in a shirtless, half-naked protest, against the demolition of the market. All party cadres are also involved in the protests.
Tirupur: Traders of the Tirupur market, near the Tirupur Old Bus Stand, are involved in a shirtless, half-naked protest, against the demolition of the market. All party cadres are also involved in the protests.
The market, was to be demolished, to pave way for the construction of a new market, under the Smart city scheme.
More than 400 shops function at this premises.

The traders were supposed to be displaced to a temporary location, until the construction of the new market was complete. However, the temporary location allegedly did not have enough facilities. Traders demanded that once the temporary location was equipped properly, they would move to it, following which the demolition of the market could take place. Additionally, they had also demanded that they must be guaranteed a shop space, at the new market.

However, the traders allege that without any discussion regarding any of the demands, the Corporation officials arrived today morning, with poclain machines and police protection, to complete the demolition of the shops. Following this, the traders of the market, DMK, MDMK and Communist party cadres removed their shirts and blocked the entrance to the market and the protests are ongoing at the time of publishing this news.
