Upon orders from Sumit Sharan, City Police Commissioner, the cyber crime department has been closely monitoring the social media to identify those who post communal and hate messages in their pages. "Such messages not only trigger similar conversations but also disrupts the harmony of the city", the Commissioner told.
Based on complaints, the B-1 police have filed FIR on Shahjahan Abdul Kathar from Coimbatore for posting hate and violence instigating messages in his social media page.
In another incident, FIR was filed against a man named Kalyan Raman who in his Facebook profile had posted that there are unusual things happening in Tamil Nadu and soon there may be wide spread violence in Coimbatore.
A FIR has been filed on him by C-4 Rathinapuri Sub-Inspector. As many of his posts were about the ongoing CAA, NPR and NRC protests, instigating communal violence and disrupting public peace, the Inspector of C-4 Rathinapuri station, lodged a complaint and booked him under 283/2020 U/s (ii) IPC. Investigations are on.
